| It's hard to convey the feelings that fill my being when
I drive through Great Smoky Mountains National Park in late April. There
are places where the hillsides are literally covered with the blossoms
of white trillium or fringed phacelia. The small valleys are polka
dotted with flowering dogwoods and serviceberry trees. The white, purple
and red blossoms of bloodroot, purple phlox and fire pink decorate the
roadsides and slopes. Everywhere you look, there is something to produce
a wonderful sense of well-being. Some of the most arresting scenes in
the park at this time of year are the small roadside streams. Many of
these are embellished with lush, moss-covered masses of stone. To see
the water blissfully caressing and delicately cascading over these
velvety, green carpeted rocks provoked a feeling of pleasure and harmony
that filled my being. |
